about
Recorded in 1999, this was the first song I had written after my first professional recording project, "Virgin Territory" had wrapped up the previous year. My friend, Scott McGregor, had bought an existing studio near downtown Austin off 5th Street and we helped him break it in with this project.
I'll always remember the care and attention producer and engineer, Chet Himes, put into micing me up -- and the patience Scott had in working with the novice I was at that point. Thanks to all! Great Memories!
*This song has been slightly re-edited from its original form which appeared on the Brett Barney's Dog CD, "Woof!"
lyrics
Gonna Bring it all home tonight
Every word I speak, every deed I do
Gonna wet your appetite for the man expecting you
And who speaks?
I wish I knew
It's on the tip of my tongue
Doesn't make a single sound as he walks from town to town
But every traveler along the road swears they've heard him clear and loud
And who speaks?
We're on our way to know
It's on the tip of my tongue
And the night, it grows so young
History books and flying machines and the things we've used before
Lie in ashes at our feet and we wonder what they were for
But tonight it seems I'm hearing so much more
It's on the tip of my tongue
Tip of my tongue
